Urupukapuka Island

Coastal sheep weary of my presence

After splashing down in the water we set sail towards the near by islands. We anchored in Urupukapuka Bay, set up the dingy, and went to sleep.

Our skipper, Chris, was keen to do some office work from the boat while I rowed to shore.

The Coastal Sheep

Perhaps a few of the luckiest sheep in the world. Living on an untouched island with nothing but sweeping hills and tall grass to graze on. They tread where they please with out care and live amongst the forests and coast.

As I try to approach them with my camera, they stare at me, seemingly confused and bored with my presence!

I spend my days hiking walking amongst the sheep and thinking about heartbreak. It’s difficult to write without acknowledging how it feels to be in paradise with grief on the forefront of my thoughts.

It’s as though my existence is divided between conscious and sub-conscious thought. The part of me that is cogniscent and aware stares at his counterpart, who is shell-shocked and amputated by the recoil of loving.

It is a first to feel such a way, but at the very least, I feel human. I begin to resonate with the books I read and the music I listen to.

At once, I belong to a greater tribe of hardship. It is a bonding moment between myself and the universe.

Tomorrow…

I will write about my underwater adventures, and what life has been like so far onboard our sailing vessel.

Apologies in advance if my internet connection fails.
